Celebration of Greek Culture, Volcanos, Debates

This weekend has been a grueling celebration of Greek madness. The Portland Greek Festival launched on Friday and we spent most of our waking hours there turning cucumbers and tomatoes and feta cheese and other ordinary ingredients into mana from Heaven! It's a story that deserves deeper treatment and tonight I'm too whipped to do it justice. Suffice to say...it was a weekend with few moments of tranquility. We here in PDX are also on the edge of the alleged blast zone for Mt. St. Helens...eruption imminent. The first eruption of the mountain was dramatic and unique in its demonstration of the earth's power...today's burping magma doesn't seem to have that aura. However, it's apparently a big draw. I think it's wonderful that people are interested....something good may come of it.
Oh. The debate. I listened to a bit of it, but then had to cut it short because of the Festival. I think the President's demeanor spoke volumes. And anyone who says he was more substantive than John Kerry needs to reread the transcript. Yet another subject deserving more careful commentary.

Perhaps a good night's sleep.......
