The ballot measures passed. We must be seemly in our response.

Measures 66 and 67 which raised corporate and individual taxes on the highest income earners in Oregon passed tonight.  I,  with reservations, supported the measures.  And I am chagrined tonight that the proponents of these measures are having a great tribal "dance around the bonfire and burn the witch in effigy" party to celebrate.   It would be better to have a "seemly" response so as not to seem to be trampling on our fellow citizens in opposition.   Seemly.  A word not in much use.  Perhaps a word that has no place in this new century.   We won the vote but we must respect that there are people who opposed us with integrity and who don't understand our position.  Having the news give a hurrah to a 'victory party' ignores the reality that our 'win' isn't a friggin' football game- it is a serious cultural dialogue that deserves respect.   Even when others disrespect it.  We make no friends here, dancing around this tribal fire.  For we have said all those opposed are not of our tribe.    Stupid.
