Former Timbers cluster raises interesting thoughts

The Los Angeles Galaxy's match with AC Milan recently caught my attention because of a surplus of familiar names.
Alan Gordon, Bryan Jordan, Leonard Griffin, and Josh Saunders were all notable enough in the match to rate mention and a tie against the Serie A team seems like an impressive result. Once again, I wonder what would the US leagues be like if clubs were operating on the model the rest of the world uses in which players don't trot off at the whim of another club without a substantial fee being involved. The Timbers have had several talented players cut their teeth in the green and white before being "called" to the MLS. The fact that they are stepping up in games like the Galaxy v AC Milan show suggests that having more control over their fate here would have been good for us. All of which is perhaps made academic by the work the Timbers have done this year to assemble a talented, hardworking, disciplined, patient side that is ready to go the full ninety or more....and win. It's been a great season from the stands. Last Saturday's tilt against Burnley was much fun to watch. And so where were the other 10,000 fans? Can't hold the Soccer City USA title from our living rooms, mates!
