First day of spring

Rain spattered the stadium seats at U of P tonight and the temperature dropped below 'springlike', but there was still green everywhere.  This morning the Portland Timbers were awarded a coveted MLS slot for the 2011 season and Soccer City USA was energized!  Tonight, in the aforementioned chill,  this year's USL Timbers squad faced off against the MLS' New York Red Bulls and held them to a 0-0 tie on the Pilot pitch.  Was fun to watch.  The combination of new and old crew members in the Portland kit suggested possibilities for the season to come, for the spring,  for the golden light of spring evenings resonating to the thunder of drums and pipes from the Timbers Army and the solid 'thock' of the ball against someone's boot as the beautiful game flows on.
