A moment of silence, Mr Rosewater...

Kurt Vonnegut died yesterday. His "committing suicide by cigarettes" took 84 years God bless him. I had lost the time and perhaps the sense of whimsy needed to keep up with his work. So many of his last books I haven't read.
However, he helped frame my view of the world as he did for many people my age. Vonnegut took a look at the world posing for a photo and stepped right ten paces so the world was silhouetted in a different light, and then wrote about what he saw. His gentle irony and open-eyed view of what he saw gave him an astonishing voice. Billy Pilgrim watching the movie about WWII bombers backwards, so that they are sucking the fires out of burning cities and German fighters are healing and fixing all leading back to the dismantling of dangerous substances and burying them so future generations will not be harmed is a unique and genuine reminder that we choose to see the world as we do. We'll miss him. Cat's Cradle. Sirens of Titan. God Bless You Mr. Rosewater. And so it goes.....
