Oh you're dragging out that Big Brother stuff again....

Well, yes I am. This morning I heard a radio discussion of the US gummint's agreement with manufacturers of color printers to create a tiny, encoded "watermark" in any document coming out of the printer which would identify the printer and, in theory, the owner of the printer. The reason this orwellian step was undertaken was, allegedly, to help track counerfeiters who were using the printers to make 'money'. Thing is, as noted in the annotated article, there's no controls on this being the only use of the information. The decision to do this took place without public scrutiny or disclosure. And is a disturbing collaboration between gummint and business who often claim they are at odds in the marketplace. Truth be told, if you've used your color printer to print and circulate a derisive picture of President Bush, you could easily be on a list. Who'd know?

Check the link for more information.....sadly.
