Just back from Reno, Nevada. A wonderful museum conference held at the El Dorado hotel...almost a locational oxymoron. I hate artificial environments with air 'conditioned' into lifelessness, public areas full of smoke and the jangle of slot machines, and hundreds of sad specimins of humanity hunched over the machines... The core area of Reno, apart from casinos and souvenir shops and liquor stores, includes very little. Many empty and gritty storefronts. And motels ranging down to the very worst worn buildings shoehorned in among the giant casino hotels.
Ironically, Mar was at a banking conference about forty miles away in the Olympic Valley on the other side of the California border. A straight shot down the Truckee River. I went for a long walk on Tues afternoon down the river walk and thought I could just throw bottles with messages in the water and Mar could fish them out about one am the next morning....Ha!
Flew back right after the big wet storm hit Washington. My route was by way of SeaTac so we got wet too. I always feel so blessed to get back to the moist air, dark green hues, and open spaces of home. Portland. A city of beauty. OK....hafta take a break and go back to work.
