Flying to San Diego

So I'm really happy that my flight to San Diego for the Western Museums Association conference is in the morning so the pilots will be rested and not overshoot SD and fly to Cabo instead.  People like me who are a little antsy about flying anyway find that less than reassuring.   And couldn't the flight attendants be charged with knocking on the door and 'just checking to see if you need anything'  somewhere out near the intended beginning of the descent.
