July'/><title type='text'>Fireworks and the Fourth of July</title><summary type='text'>Last night I went out to bring summer items in from the deck about 11pm.   The neighborhoods around us were in full-throated roar as fireworks of various kinds were lit and exploded.   East I could hear loud, periodic concussions accompanied by light flashes.   On all sides there was the staccato crackle of Duniway School (where my father attended in the 30s) had shifted away from using disposable sporks and plastic trays to using silverware.   This small choice makes so much sense and reduces by tens of came to us clearly from blocks away as we hurried to join them for the Timbers' rumble with the 'Caps.   We were running four or five minutes late because we'd had trouble finding a place to park.  But with reserved seat tickets and friends awaiting us,  we weren't too concerned.
